Es una instalación compuesta por una columna antigua y unos cientos de autos de juguete dispuestos como hormigas devorando un cuerpo.
Todas las columnas van a morir dijo el poeta y artista cubano-libanés Fayad Jamís (1930-1988) en uno de sus poemas.
La artista sigue ese encanto por las ruinas, por los monumentos caídos, que de modo misterioso sentimos. Inspirada en la frase ¡“What if it did not happen!” que dio título a la Off Biennale Cairo: Something Else 2018, la obra es una metáfora sobre el derrocamiento de los cánones, de aquellos pilares que se nos han enseñado indestructibles. Tiene también un toque irónico: esos pilares están siendo destruidos por la llamada civilización, con sus carreteras y coches, y todo lo que esto conlleva.
En la obra los carros en miniatura adquieren doble simbolismo. De una parte, se representan como hormigas devorando un cadáver: lo material que devora lo espiritual, la avaricia del ser humano en sus ansias infinitas de poder y de tener derrocando la cultura, el arte, lo sutil. De la otra, personifican la necesidad de cambio, el espíritu creativo que arremete contra los dogmas que la columna encarna.

It’s an installation composed of an old pillar and a few hundred of toy-sized cars that simulate ants devouring a corpse.

The artist follows that fascination by ruins and fallen monuments which we mysteriously feel. Inspired by the phrase “What if it did not happen!” that gave title to the Off Biennale Cairo: Something Else 2018, the work is a metaphor for the overthrow of the canons, of those pillars that have been taught indestructible and at the same time, and ironically, are being destroyed by the so-called civilization, with its roads and cars and everything that their development entails.
Here, the toy-sized cars acquire a double symbolism. On the one hand, they are represented as ants devouring a corpse: the materiality that consumes spirituality, the avarice of the human beings in their unlimited hunger for power and possession overthrown culture, art, subtleness. Of the other part, they typify the need for change, the creative spirit attacking those dogmas personified by the pillar.
